I don't know why it took me so long to get on board with this. Backpacks are not waterproof. Why nobody makes a serious hiking backpack that is waterproof is beyond me. Maybe it's because the solution is so simple:
Successfully keeping homeless people's stuff dry for years.
It really shouldn't have taken me this long to get one of these. I think I might have shied away from it because it's not some high-tech sil-nylon-gortex-paid-50-bucks-for-a-bag solution. However, it works great. All my clothes and sleeping-bag go in dry and come out just as dry. It also allows me to separate out smelly clothes from clean ones. Cost: $0 after begging a gas station attendant. Why I went for so long with damp clothes seems very silly to me now.
